Newsletter 7

A warm welcome from Mr Finn and Miss Evans – joint headteachers of the UTC. We are looking forward to working with you, our parent and student body, to celebrate, develop and continuously enhance the UTC.

At the start of the new half term, we will be holding an assembly with the whole school to outline our key priorities for the remainder of the year with a relentless focus on high standards, excellent resources and the development of skills for students to succeed in their next steps. Our plans include:

  • Outlines of lesson content and assessments will be sent home to parents for all subjects at the start of the term.
  • A strong focus on preparing students for their next steps through the ‘Focus on the Future’ campaign.
  • Planners will be issued to students to help them improve their organisation skills.

Employer visits

The Sir Robert McAlpine Employer visits and Project Based Learning sessions are progressing brilliantly! The students are designing a new school building construction plan – see above.

In other news…

100 per cent of students who have had a careers interview with our specialist careers advisor, Mr Young, now report feeling more certain about their futures. All students will have seen our advisor by the end of the year.

Year 12 started their ‘Focus on the Future’ programme this week, by beginning the planning of their UCAS or higher apprenticeship personal statements. Mr Finn provided students with a model template for planning their statements, and students are invited to discuss their plans regularly with teachers. Good luck Year 12!
